K-SRDTM DermoskeletonTM

Human Augmention Systems

Physiological and cognitive stress directly related to the effects of load, repetitive motion and operating conditions, are shared daily by Military, Civil Defense and Industrial workers. While the human body has unsurpassed capabilities, we have pushed the limits of our biological performance, with direct impact on the “bottom line” – injury, worker’s compensation, medical down time and loss of productivity. Repetitive work while bearing heavy loads, or repetitive motion, degrades the bodies performance and creates dangerous exhaust ion causing musculoskeletal disorders (MSD).

Human Augmentation Systems are increasingly demonstrating the ability to extend the warranty on the human body, by increasing and extending a workers’ ability to perform physiological and cognitive stressing activities, longer and safer.

The K-SRDTM Device

The Knee Stress Release DeviceTM (K-SRDTM) is a powered assistive device incorporating the DermoskeletonTM technology developed by B-TEMIA Inc. It is a complete computer-controlled lower extremity motorized orthosis that counteract overstress on the lower back and legs.

Its lightweight and flexible design can be easily sized and integrated with most uniform or clothing and individual equipment systems.

The result: Less fatigue at the end of the day. Agile, Mobile, Strong.

Operational Principles

B-TEMIA’s K-SRDTM DermoskeletonTM system is a robotized mechanical structure which generates additional biomechanical energy on the lower extremities. The controller box contains sensors that supply information about the kinematics and the kinetics of the user’s lower extremities and includes software that recognizes the user’s mobility intentions. The system is powered by a lithium-polymer battery.

The leg brace assembly is mainly comprised of the actuator, the electronic boards, hip joint, and contact areas with soft goods. The belt comes in various sizes adapted to each wearer. The K-SRDTM does not initiate any movement but waits for the user’s lead. Once the user makes the first move, the K-SRDTM assists according to the activity.

Following the instructions of the user manual, and after minimal supervised training (i.e., 90 minutes), individuals can safely and effectively use the K-SRDTM.

Device Uses

The K-SRDTM device is designed to assist its wearer, in completing repetitive or physically demanding tasks such as: lifting or dragging heavy loads, holding tools or equipment, repetitive or continuous kneeling or squatting, crawling, walking long distances, walking with load, walking up or downhill, and using stairs while carrying load.
